Mortgage broker using TikTok to educate and provide financial literacy

Apr 8, 2024 | 12:25 PM

Hatters who use TikTok in Medicine Hat may be seeing another familiar face.

Local mortgage broker Vlad Khazov has started to use the platform to help educate potential homebuyers.

While Khazov uses other platforms such as Instagram and Facebook to help reach more eyes, he said TikTok tends to have more responses.

Khazov has used the videos to help break language barriers with Ukrainian newcomers and explain how the mortgage process works for first time homebuyers.

Khazov said that he isn’t seeking virality, but rather trying to take financial literacy to a more mainstream platform and spark a conversation.

“One of the biggest purposes is to educate people and to educate potential borrowers on some aspects in terms of applying for a mortgage, qualifying for a mortgage, what to be aware of,” he said.

“There’s a lot of important aspects for getting a mortgage and a lot of people are just not familiar with it and don’t know what to ask when they’re new to it, right.”

“So it’s important to learn before you get into it, at least be somewhat prepared.”

Khasov’s TikTok currently has 20 videos totalling 14,000 views.
