Speed friending taking place this weekend at the Medicine Hat Public Library

Medicine Hat’s first speed friending event is Saturday afternoon at the Medicine Hat Public Library.

It’s similar to speed dating, but instead the focus is on adults being able to make new friends.

The library was approached by Alberta Health Services and What Matter’s to Hatters to collaborate on the idea.

Miranda Leduc, adult and community librarian at Medicine Hat Public Library said the idea is to help with isolation in the community and the mental health crisis.

“The best way to handle something like that, and some of the most preventative measures that we can have is by talking to people and having friendships and having a support group,” Leduc said.

“We really wanted to give a chance for people who are new to town or people who are just looking for new friends to come together and meet people in the community,” she added.

“Because it’s fun.”

If the event goes well it is something the library would like to continue and possibly expand the amount of participants.

Pre-registration is required for those who are interested.
