Brooks Bandits’ Buttazzoni named BCHL Alberta division player of the week

Brooks Bandits forward Mirko Buttazzoni has been named the BCHL Alberta Division Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Buttazzoni, 19, scored seven points (6G, 1A) in three games during the week of February 19th to 25th.

His week began with a hat trick performance on Family Day, helping the Bandits beat the Okotoks Oilers 6-3. It was his second hat trick of the season (his other came January 17th). The forward had two goals on February 23rd in the Bandits 7-2 win over the Blackfalds Bulldogs. He wrapped up the week by scoring the overtime goal on February 24th in the Bandits 3-2 win over the Sherwood Park Crusaders. It was his third overtime goal of the season, having scored overtime goals on December 1st vs Spruce Grove and February 16th vs Blackfalds.

The Langley, BC product is committed to Clarkson University, and has 12 points in nine BCHL games to tie for third in Alberta Division scoring. His seven goals are tied for the most among his Alberta Division peers.

For the second straight week, Bandits forward Nick Peluso was given an Honourable Mention after scoring five points (1G, 4A) in three games. Defenceman Keith McInnis was also given an Honourable Mention for scoring five points (1G, 4A) in three games.

This is the second straight week a Bandit was named the BCHL Alberta Division Player of the Week. Forward Nathan Free received the honour for February 12th to 18th.

Winners of five straight games, the Bandits (49-5) are now 8-1 in BCHL play. They continue their homestand on Saturday, March 2nd when they host the Okotoks Oilers at the Centennial Regional Arena. Game time is 7:00 pm.
