‘It’s more about our team and our process’: Medicine Hat Cubs launch post-season run

The Medicine Hat Cubs began a playoff journey Saturday night, playing host to the Coaldale Copperheads at the Kinplex.

The Cubs won Game 1 on Saturday 5-4 at home and Game 2 on Sunday 4-3.

The Cubs won their last regular season game to secure second place, home ice advantage and a bye to into the second round.

.

They came into the weekend having won two of their last six and according to head coach Randy Wong, consistency will be key going into the post season.

“This year was a totally different mindset,” Wong said.

“I think the last couple years, we’ve always kind of looked at who we’re going to potentially play and then we focused on that maybe too much,” he said.

“This year, it’s more about our team and our process, things that we’ve done to get to this point, things that we’ve improved on,” he added.

“We’ve worried more about player systems, making sure our chemistry is good with the guys on the ice, so it’s really a different mindset this year and we’re excited to see how it plays out.”

The Cubs finished the season 24-9-5 and were scheduled host game one and three. They will also host game five if necessary.
