Redcliff resident charged after firing shots at RCMP Friday night

REDCLIFF, AB – According to a press-release from the Redcliff RCMP, charges have been laid on a man who fired shots at police June 16. There were no injuries to police or the suspect.

Around 7:00pm in Redcliff, officers responded to an assault and theft. Upon arrival, the suspect resisted arrest and fired a gun at police.

The suspect then retreated into a trailer where more gunshots were heard, near the area of 4th Street and 5th Avenue. This is when the Emergency Response team was dispatched.

Around 1:30am on June 17, the suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

The RCMP have charged 32-year-old Redcliff resident, Jonathan Andrew Kearney with

· Discharge firearm with intent

· Discharge firearm while being reckless

· Additional weapon/firearms offences (x12)

· Resist arrest

· Fail to comply with release conditions

· Breach of Conditional Sentence Order

Kearny will remain in custody, with his next court date of June 20, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Medicine Hat.
