Jun 15, 2023 | 4:05 PM

CARBERRY, Man. – RCMP say 15 people are dead after a bus carrying people from Dauphin, Man., many of them seniors, collided with a semi truck.

Police say 10 people have also been sent to hospital.

The collision happened at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 5 west of Winnipeg.

RCMP say the initial investigation shows the semi truck was travelling eastbound on Highway 1 and the small passenger bus was travelling south on Highway 5. The bus crossed the westbound lanes of Highway 1 and was crossing the eastbound lanes when it collided with the semi truck.

RCMP assistant commissioner Rob Hill told a news conference this day will be remembered as one of tragedy and incredible sadness.

He says every available resource has been sent to the scene.

A family support centre has been set up at a Lutheran Church in Dauphin for relatives.

Hill says he can’t imagine what families anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones are going through.

More coming.
