City says renting market pods in Towne Square is easier this year

Jun 6, 2023 | 9:46 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat hopes changes to rental procedures will lead to more business at the market pods in Towne Square.

According to the city, the new and simpler process helps to reduce obstacles and offers cheaper rates to encourage a variety of businesses to utilize the Towne Square venue to showcase their products and services.

“Towne Square has always been envisioned as a catalyst for economic vitality in the downtown core. To achieve this, we recognized the need to simplify our process,” says Leah Prestayko, director of community development with the city, in a news release. “We’ve since revised the pricing structure and streamlined the rental procedures in an effort to make the pods more accessible and appealing to businesses.”

The pods are available to small retailers, artisans, artists and non-profit or charitable organizations. They can be rented for $50 per week from Wednesday to Sunday.

Prestayko says there are many exciting community events taking place this summer downtown and encourages businesses to look into renting a pod.

Among the events downtown this month are the Sticks on First Street Hockey Tournament on June 17 and Medicine Hat JazzFest will have a large presence downtown from June 19-25. chat
