Apr 5, 2023 | 5:06 PM

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and new cases in Alberta is relatively steady, according to this week’s update.

Province-wide as of April 3, there are 485 Albertans currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 19 of those people are in ICU. In the last update there were 465 in hospital and 25 in ICU.

There were 380 new cases over the most recent seven-day period, down from last week’s 397.

There have been 5,653 COVID deaths recorded in Alberta over the course of the pandemic. That’s 10 more than in the previous update.

There were 26 new cases in the South Zone in the update, down from 29 in the previous update. The seven-day new case rate in the zone of 8.4 new cases per 100,000 people is just below the provincial average of 8.6. Two weeks ago the South Zone’s seven-day new case rate was 6.1.

There have been 41,153 total COVID-19 cases in the zone since the start of the pandemic, and 525 deaths, none new in this update.

The province’s COVID-19 dashboard is now showing only zone statistics instead of by municipality.

Vaccination statistics for Medicine Hat show 79.5 per cent of all people have received one dose, 76 per cent have received two doses and 38.8 per cent have received three doses.
