Brooks RCMP seek driver who approached teen girl, suspects in attempted theft

Mar 2, 2023 | 10:33 AM

BROOKS, AB – RCMP in Brooks are searching for a male following an encounter with a teenage girl on March 1.

At about 12:55 p.m. a 16-year-old female was walking home from school when the driver of a dark red, four door Ford truck stopped next to her, according to RCMP. The driver allegedly offered her a ride several times, which the girl declined before walking away. The driver did not follow the girl or get out of the truck.

RCMP would like to speak with the driver.

The truck is described as:

  • Dark red 4 door Ford truck (no model no marker)
  • Truck was loud as he had to turn it off so he could speak
  • Tires on the truck are aftermarket and were “bigger than they would have been if bought new”

The driver is described as:

  • Light complexion
  • Approximately 40-50 years of age
  • Deep voice
  • Messy, shoulder length brown/greyish curly hair and a scruffy beard
  • Wearing a black T-shirt

Attempted catalytic converter theft

Brooks RCMP are also looking for a vehicle and two suspects after the attempted theft of a catalytic converter early in the morning of March 1.

Police say at about 11 a.m. Wednesday witnesses saw a silver BMW sedan with Alberta license plate ZHB-846 stop next to a parked vehicle at 270 Aqueduct Dr. in Brooks. A male passenger got out and slid underneath the parked vehicle and began to cut the catalytic converter out. Two witnesses intervened and a confrontation occurred during which the driver’s side window of the suspect vehicle was broken. The suspects fled the scene in the BMW before police arrived.

Prior to the theft that same day, police saw the suspect during an unrelated investigation. At that time, license plate on the BMW was CND-8497. Investigators believe that the plate had been changed to aid in the theft of the catalytic converter. Brooks RCMP say one of the suspects is known to police.

Residents are asked to report any sightings of the following vehicle

  • 2002 Silver BMW 325xi
  • Drivers side window broken
  • Sunroof
  • Tinted tail lights
  • The vehicle may have changed license plates but was seen bearing Alberta plates ZHB-846 and CND-8497

Anyone with information on either investigation is asked to contact the Brooks RCMP at 403-632-5535.
