Whooping cough outbreak worsening in southern Alberta
LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services is asking the public to be careful as the number of cases of pertussis (whooping cough) in southern Alberta continues to grow.
An outbreak was declared on Jan. 26, in the communities of Lethbridge County, Coaldale, Taber, Vauxhall, Grassy Lake and Bow Island. According to AHS, these areas have particularly low rates of immunization.
As of Feb. 8, the number of cases has more than doubled from 16 to 39.
AHS says in a media release, “There is no evidence of spread outside the South Zone.”
