LETHBRIDGE, AB – The mother and father accused of abusing their infant had their cases in court today.

The parents – who cannot be identified under a publication ban – were arrested in January.

The 52-year-old father and 31-year-old mother are each charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life to their six-week-old child. The father is also accused of assault, sexual assault and sexual contact with a child.

Both matters were adjourned today.

The mother is back in court on Feb. 10 and the father is scheduled for Feb. 24, both potentially for bail hearings.

Lethbridge police said today that the infant remains in critical condition.
