Local animal rescue is shutting down effectively immediately

Jan 22, 2023 | 8:58 AM

Medicine Hat, AB–The Southern Alberta Humane Society is closing permanently effective immediately.

The move was announced in a Facebook Post on the society’s social media page.

“This has not been an easy decision, I have to step down as President due to a long term medical issue. This is a 24/7 committment, unfortunately we have not found anyone to take over, ” writes De Seaton.

Seaton writes that the Facebook page will remain active as there are still animals in care and the plan is to support those animals and their foster families until a forever home can be found.

Seaton offered her personal thanks and gratitude to the generous individuals and corporations that have donated their time and resources to help the society. “Because of your support and generosity we have been able to help hundreds of animals throughout our four years.”

Seaton recognized Dr.Poddar and his staff at City Vet for their willingness to take on a fledgling rescue because without a vet clinic, the society would never have gotten off the ground.

The society began in May of 2019 and began fostering animals the following month.

Since the post went up, many have taken time to comment their thanks and share photos of animals they adopted from the Society.

Anyone with questions or concerns are being directed to the Facebook page.
