City recycling depots for real Christmas trees now open

Dec 28, 2022 | 12:31 PM

Christmas is over and some people have already started taking down their signs of the season. If you and your family celebrated around a real Christmas tree this year, you need to know where to take it now.

The City of Medicine Hat’s tree recycling program got underway on Tuesday at the city’s three bulk recycling locations. Until Jan. 31, you can take your tree to either the Medicine Hat Mall parking lot near Best Buy, the Kipling Street depot across from Kin Coulee Park or the Northlands Co-op parking lot.

People are asked to remove all decorations and tinsel from the tree prior to dropping it off so it can be chipped and recycled in the compost process at the landfill. You can also take your tree to the landfill yourself.

If you have an artificial tree, the city says it can either be put in the regular garbage or taken to the landfill.
