Extreme cold warnings blanket Alberta
Most of Alberta, including Medicine Hat, is under an extreme cold warning on Thursday.
The warning was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada at about 4 p.m. Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
Extremely cold wind chill values near – 40 C are expected tonight, the warning says. Wind chill values will moderate during the daylight hours on Friday but extremely cold conditions may return Friday night in a few regions.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
