Tigers stomp the Oil Kings 6-1

Nov 24, 2022 | 11:16 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers dominated the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-1, Wednesday night at Co-op Place.

The scoring was opened by the Oil Kings, but the puck did not come off an Edmonton player’s stick.

It was a misplay behind the Tigers’ net that caused Oasiz Wiesblatt to bank a pass off the skate of Beckett Langkow, and into the net.

Wiesblatt would make up for that mistake quickly, putting the puck in the Oil Kings’ net. That was his ninth of the season, tying the game 1-1 headed into the second period.

The Tigers would continue where they left off in the second, going up 2-1 only 5:53 into the period. It was the ninth powerplay goal of the season for Brendan Lee, and would tie him for first in the entire Canadian Hockey League.

Medicine Hat would add one more goal in the middle frame, thanks to Brayden Boehm getting his ninth of the year.

Reid Andresen would find the back of the net to stretch the lead to three before Pavel Bocharov and Tomas Mrsic rounded out the scoring.

Third star went to Andrew Basha who had three assists, and now leads the Tigers in points this season.

The second star of the night went to Wiesblatt who had a rocky start, but found the opening goal of the night for the Tigers and added an assist.

First star went to Tyler Mackenzie who had three assists in the contest, and now has a total of 15 points on the season.

The Tigers now sit eighth in the Eastern Conference, and only a single point back of the Regina Pats for seventh.

They will next be in action Friday when they hit the road to take on the Red Deer Rebels.

You can hear all the action from that game live on Wild 94.5, with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
