Tigers fall in overtime to the Blades

Nov 19, 2022 | 9:27 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers went back and forth with the Saskatoon Blades, but fell short 4-3 in extra time.

The first period of this contest would belong to the goaltenders Beckett Langkow for the Tabbies, and Ethan Chadwick for the Blades.

The score of 0-0 would not be broken until 6:11 of the middle frame, when Andrew Basha would grab his 6th goal of the season.

Once the first puck hit the back of the net, the flood gates were open from there. Only 41 seconds later Vaughn Watterodt would pot the equalizer for the Blades, that being his 4th goal this year.

Saskatoon was not done there, as exactly 10 minutes into the second they would throw another one up on the board. It was the first of the season for Misha Volotovskii that put his side up 2-1.

Medicine Hat would come back towards the end of the period with an answer of their own. It was Brayden Boehm putting his 8th of the year behind Chadwick, making the score 2-2 headed into the final frame.

Special Teams would come into play in the third with each team putting up a powerplay goal. It was the Blades who broke the tie, thanks to Brandon Lisowsky and his team leading 9th goal of the season.

For Medicine Hat it would be Brendan Lee who remains hot, now with 5 goals in his last 3 games played. For Lee that is his 8th powerplay tally, tying him for first in the entire CHL in that category.

3-3 would be the score until the end of the period sending the game into overtime.

The extra period would be short lived, with Saskatoon’s Egor Sidorov finding the winner only 1:11 in. For Sidorov that stands as his 18th point, in only 8 games played with the Blades this season.

This loss continues the overtime issues for the Tigers, this making them 0-5 in extra time this season.

All three stars of the game went to the Blades, starting with the third star of the night Lisowsky. He had 2 points in the game, including an assist on the winning goal.

Second star of the night went to Watterodt who had a single goal in the contest.

The first star honour was given to Sidorov who only had one goal, but it was the overtime winner.

Medicine Hat now sits alone in 9th place in the eastern conference, only a single point back of being in a playoff position.

They continue their Saskatchewan road trip Saturday night in Prince Albert, where they will take on the Raiders.

You can hear all the action from that contest live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
