MEDICINE HAT — People in need of shelter from the cold in Medicine Hat are now able to stay warm 24 hours a day.

The Mustard Seed is now able to offer a warm place to sleep at it’s shelter at 737 8th street S.E., from 7:30 at night until 7:30 the following morning.

But people are then able to make their way to the Mustard Seed Community Centre on Allowance Avenue where they can get breakfast and take advantage of a multitude of other services offered there.

Colette Eirich is the managing director of the Mustard Seed in Medicine Hat.

She says there limited to 30 mats each night and have yet to exceed capacity so far.

“So the numbers vary,” says Eirich.

“Do I think we’re going to reach 30, yes for sure this winter,” add Eirich.

Spots are available on a first come, first served basis.

Guests arriving at 7:30 will go through an intake process and have the opportunity to get in out of the cold.

Eirich says every guest has a story and once Mustard Seed staff discover that story and the guest feels safe, is when change starts to happen.
There is list of urgently needed items at the Mustard Seed and Eirich thanks those who have been supporting them by donating items like clothing, socks, hoodies, jackets and toiletries.
