Tigers make a late push, but fall short against the Hurricanes

Nov 6, 2022 | 9:22 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers suffered their 5th straight loss Saturday, with a 3-2 defeat to their Highway 3 rivals the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

It was the Hurricanes that owned the first period, going up 1-0 on an in close shot from Jett Jones. That beat Tigers starter Evan May, for Jones 8th goal of the year.

The score would remain the same headed into the second period, and wouldn’t be changed until 6:59 of the frame when Lethbridge grew their lead. The goal was potted by forward Logan Wormald, that being his 10th point this season.

Down 2-0 headed into the third, the Tigers needed a quick answer. They got just that from team point leader, Andrew Basha who scored only five seconds into the final frame to put his team within one goal.

Lethbridge wasn’t willing to sit with the game that close for long though. As at 8:38 of the third it was forward Tyson Zimmer who answered back for his 2nd goal of the year.

With less than three minutes to go in the game Dallon Melin would find the back of the net for the Tabbies to make the score 3-2. It would not be enough though, as that would remain the final score at the buzzer.

Medicine Hat now has a 1-2-0 record against their rivals down the road this season, and now hold a total record of 4-8-3.

All three stars of the game went to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Third star to goaltender Jared Picklyk, who stopped 24/26 shots he faced throughout the game.

Second star was earned by Jones who had one goal, and an assist on the game winner.

Then it was Zimmer awarded with the first star of the night, with an assist and the game winner coming off his stick.

The Tigers will see action again Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. from Co-Op Place. If not able to attend you can here it all live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
