Veiner Centre to handle cases of elder abuse in our city
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Seniors who are victims of elder abuse will be able to seek help through a program at the Veiner Centre.
Unison at Veiner Centre assumed operation of the Elder Abuse Case Management program in Medicine Hat back on Aug.1. The program had operated out of Medicine Hat Family Services between January 2021 and September 2022.
The CEO of Unison, at Veiner Centre says “we’re constantly innovating when it comes to initiatives that will improve the lives of the seniors in our communities. Veiner Centre taking on the Elder Abuse Case Management program is a huge honour and we’re moved that we’re able to take on this responsibility for the betterment of seniors in Medicine Hat.”
Approximately, 1,300 seniors in our city experience abuse every year. Local case numbers are currently the third highest in the province even with elder abuse being under-reported due to the stigma that often accompanies victims.
