MEDICINE HAT, AB – A decades-long tradition will continue at Connaught Golf Club this Labour Day long weekend, and golfers will be in for some scorching hot conditions.

The 89th annual Southeastern Classic golf tournament begins on Friday with registration and a practice round and will continue on until Monday. The four-day event is the biggest event for Connaught this year and will see 130 participants from all over western Canada try and take home the prestigious title.

The course just played host to the PGA Senior’s Championship of Canada a week ago, and head golf professional Brian Oliphant says the course conditions are great and they are ready to go.

“We’re looking forward to a great weekend,” Oliphant says.

With this being the 89th year of the tournament, Oliphant says it’s important for the club to keep the tradition going.

“It just shows how vibrant our golf club is you know, having an event this long and continuing to grow, so it speaks volumes for our golf club.”

This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the course, which makes the tournament that much more special for participants.

Championship flights tee off between 10 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, with lower handicappers teeing off at 8 a.m. on Sunday for anyone who wants to come out and watch the event.
