Medicine Hat’s new confirmed COVID cases spike in one week

The number of weekly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat has more than doubled since last week.

The weekly COVID update was released by the province on Wednesday.

In Medicine Hat, 33 new cases were identified between Aug. 24-30, up from 15 in the previous period. There were no COVID deaths recorded in Medicine Hat, leaving the total at 101 over the course of the pandemic.

During the same period, there were 1,367 cases confirmed province-wide, down from 1,858 in the previous week and 42 COVID deaths. There are 857 COVID inpatients in Alberta hospitals, down from 870. Of the total number of inpatients, 20 of them are in ICU, down from 32 last week.

Alberta has confirmed a total of 602,434 over the course of the pandemic and 4,790 deaths.

Among all Medicine Hat residents, 79.1 per cent have received one dose of vaccine, 75.6 per cent have received two doses and 37.1 per cent have received three doses.

Among Alberta’s total population, 82 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 77.6 per cent have received two doses 39.1 per cent have received three doses.
