Weekly confirmed COVID-19 cases nudge up in city and province

Medicine Hat has seen a slight increase in the number of weekly confirmed cases of COVID-19, as has the province as a whole.

The province released its weekly COVID update on Wednesday.

In Medicine Hat, 25 new cases were identified between Aug. 2-8, up from 20 in the previous period. There were no COVID deaths recorded in Medicine Hat, leaving the total at 100.

During the same period, there were 1,808 cases confirmed province-wide, up from 1,688 in the previous week and 13 COVID deaths. There are 748 COVID inpatients in Alberta hospitals, up from 702. Of the total number of inpatients, 28 of them are in ICU, the same number as last week.

Alberta has confirmed a total of 597,891 over the course of the pandemic and 4,694 deaths.

Among all Medicine Hat residents, 78.9 per cent have received one dose of vaccine, 75.5 per cent have received two doses and 36.9 per cent have received three doses.

Among Alberta’s total population, 81.7 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 77.5 per cent have received two doses 38.8 per cent have received three doses.
