Guns seized following traffic stop by Alberta Traffic Unit Redcliff

BROOKS, AB – A complaint of an impaired driver near Brooks ended with a Cypress County resident facing nine weapons charges.

According to RCMP, officers from the Alberta Traffic Unit Redcliff worked with Brooks RCMP to locate the vehicle and suspected impaired driver near Bassano.

When approached, the driver provided a false name and was arrested.

A search of the vehicle incidental to the arrest led to the discovery of a .22 sawed-off rifle loaded with a full magazine and a chambered round; a 12 gauge sawed-off shotgun loaded with a full magazine and a chambered round; ammunition; a stun gun; large hunting knife; and various types of drug paraphernalia.

Cecily Rae Mather, 27, of Cypress County is charged with nine weapons offences, two counts of failing to comply with release conditions, obstruction and offences under the Traffic Safety Act.

Mather has been remanded into custody and will appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on May 13.
