May 9, 2022 | 3:46 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man has been charged in what the Lethbridge Police Service says is the city’s first homicide of 2022.

Police were called to the intersection of Eighth Street and 2A Avenue North at about 8:20 p.m. on May 5.

Following a verbal altercation between two men, Amber Khadka was struck by the suspect and fell to the ground, sustaining life-threatening head injuries.

Khadka, was initially transported to Chinook Regional Hospital and later transferred to Calgary. On May 7, Khadka succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy was completed by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary today, and it confirmed that Khadka’s death was the result of a homicide.

Sheldon Nicholas LePage, 45, of Lethbridge, is charged with one count each of manslaughter, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was apprehended without incident within hours of the attack and has been remanded in custody.

LPS says the victim and suspect knew each other and that this was a targeted incident.

On April 28, Khadka turned himself into Lethbridge police after being charged with two counts of sexual assault.
