NEWELL COUNTY, AB – Brooks RCMP and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating the deaths of a woman, her infant daughter and a man believed to be her sibling.

Police say they were called to a Newell County home at about 8 p.m. on May 7, to follow a report of a woman and child found deceased.

“The father of the child arrived home and discovered the bodies of the 29-year-old woman and their 8-month-old daughter,” an RCMP news release stated.

Police say a search of the area a short distance away located a deceased male, who appears to have died from self-inflicted injuries.

RCMP add the man has been tentatively identified as the deceased woman’s brother, although a formal identification is still pending the result of autopsies scheduled for Tuesday.

“This is a tragic loss of life and very difficult circumstances for the family and community of the victims,” RCMP S/Sgt. Erick Youngstrom said in a news release, “We will be continuing to investigate and seeking to determine what took place. The family has asked for privacy at this time.”
