MLS Disciplinary Committee hands Toronto FC defender Carlos Salcedo a one-game ban
TORONTO — Major League Soccer has suspended Toronto FC defender Carlos Salcedo for one game for a lunging tackle that only netted the Mexican international a yellow card in last Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls.
Referee Rubiel Vazquez opted not to reach for the red card after reviewing the 60th-minute play on a pitch-side monitor at the behest of the video assistant referee, Canadian Carol Anne Chenard. Instead he stuck with the yellow for the nasty challenge on Red Bulls forward Patryk Klimala deep in TFC territory.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee had a different view, suspending Salcedo for one game and fining him an undisclosed amount for “serious foul play.”
Salcedo, who was playing in just his second MLS match for Toronto, will miss Saturday’s game in Columbus.
