LETHBRIDGE, AB – No injuries were reported, but damage estimates are substantial following a fire early Saturday at a business in Lethbridge.

At around 3:08 a.m., crews responded to a fully-involved fire at Lafarge Canada (530 – 9 Ave. N). Crews from five City of Lethbridge stations arrived on scene to find the large warehouse building fully engulfed, with flames coming from most of the roof. High wind gusts were blowing smoke and embers to the east of the structure and several nearby trees were also on fire.

The City of Lethbridge noted that crews were “hampered by the design of the building, as well as high winds,” but they were able to control the fire within a few hours.

Residents residing immediately east of the area were evacuated for several hours because of the smoke and embers. Crews will continue to monitor the area.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Damage is estimated at $3-to-$4 million.
