Skiers and Snowboarders thrilled to be back at Hidden Valley

The parking lot was packed as skiers and snowboarders suited up to enjoy the first weekend at Hidden Valley Ski Resort.

“It’s like no other. It is like diving in the warm apple pie for the first time. The first bite’s the best bite,” said snowboarder Kenton Ast.

“ It’s a nice day outside, not too cold. Perfect conditions” added another snowboarder.

The grand opening of the hill came amid months of uncertainty after a request for proposals went out by Alberta Environment and Parks to find a new operator.

Back in December, the ski hill announced that it would be reopening the hill, with the province operating it this year until a new operator is found. The news came as a relief for skiers and snowboarders, many from Medicine Hat who call the hill home on the weekends.

“It’s nice to be at our local resort,” said one snowboarder.

The ski hill was supposed to have its season grand opening on Jan. 6. but it closed due to the cold conditions. But the further delay didn’t stop those eager for some fresh powder.

“It definitely opened real late. But you can’t complain when it is open right? You just got to enjoy it while it is here,” one snowboarder said.

According to their website, masks are mandatory in all indoor spaces, and they are encouraged on lifts and lift lines. Proof of vaccination is required, at the lounge and cafe, and day tickets are limited to 700 this year.
