MEDICINE HAT — More plans are in motion for Medicine Hat’s Town Square project.

A canopy is set to go up at the project alongside First Street SE soon.

As well, a number of sea cans are planned for retail to operate out of during various events.

And space is also being included for food trucks to work from year-round.

City officials say there could be more additions to Town Square in the months ahead, and could include a permanent public washroom and solar panels to help power nearby buildings such as city hall.

“However the city isn’t looking at any more funding for the project so we’re looking at government grants in order to come up with some additional options,” project manager Ian Hakes told CHAT News.

Construction of the canopy is slated to start later this month however this phase of the project still needs final approval from city council.

Completion of the canopy is expected for April, and eight sea cans are anticipated to arrive by month’s end.

Hakes says another six sea cans could be installed if demand proved adequate.
