Saskatchewan expands COVID-19 booster shot eligibility to more of its residents

Dec 7, 2021 | 11:07 AM

REGINA – Saskatchewan is opening up COVID-19 booster shots to more of its population.

Residents who are 50 years or older are now eligible for a third dose, as are people 18 years and older living in the far north or on First Nation communities, and all health-care workers.

People born in 2009 or earlier with underlying health conditions, including those with diabetes, also qualify for a booster dose.

The province has also reduced the time between the second and third doses to five months from six months.

Health officials say people who have received a third dose for travel purposes don’t need another booster shot.

Dr. Saqib Shahab, the province’s chief medical health officer, says he hopes as many people as possible take advantage of the booster shots as they target an important demographic.
