GLEICHEN, AB – RCMP in Gleichen and Blackfalds are warning the public after a pair of concerning events involving children in the past month.

As previously reported, Gleichen RCMP responded to a complaint of child luring on Main Street on July 28.

At the time, Mounties said an unknown elderly male approached a 13-year-old male and offered to pay him money for sex. The suspect was described as a male approximately in his 50s with grey hair and blue eyes. He was wearing glasses and a blue-white plaid shirt, dark jeans and a hat at the time.

The suspect was seen driving a newer light-coloured GMC pickup truck with after-market lights.

On Aug. 9, Blackfalds RCMP received a call about an attempted child luring between 6 and 8 p.m.

RCMP say a male in a vehicle approached a seven-year-old girl riding a bicycle and told her to get in his vehicle. The child ignored the request and returned home.

The suspect is described as having darker skin, brown eyes and glasses. He was wearing a blue button-up shirt and spoke with an accent. He is reported to have been driving a red SUV or pickup truck.

RCMP say they can’t confirm whether these two incidents are connected, but acknowledge that there is a resemblance between the two composite sketches of the suspects.
