Library staff and patrons happy to work and browse in-person again

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Public Library was buzzing with patrons as they re-opened their doors this morning.

We spoke with Deanie Briggs who was happy to be back on the first day.

She’s an avid reader and was carrying an armful of books.

Deanie says she hopes the library continues to be open.

“I just went online and got books but I prefer to come to the library and browse through the library,” Deanie said.

Library staff are also happy to be back in the building, especially the work-from-home team.

They came back on Friday to get everything ready for today.

Karla Gaetz is a library assistant and works in the children’s department.

She says working from home was good, but says it’s nice to leave her house and come to a fun workplace.

“It’s really exciting. For me, I think it’s extra exciting because I get to work with all the kids and see all the happy faces and they’re just excited to be here and bring life back into the library.”

“Definitely working with my co-workers as well as seeing the patrons and interacting with them,” Rosemary Braat with the library’s adult services department said.

The library will continue to offer curbside pickup orders and home-bound service for patrons.

They are open: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM.

Tuesday’s and Thursday 10 AM -8 PM.
