School divisions partner for digital course development

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Public School Division anticipates online learning will be a continued need this coming school year.

And they’re trying to plan the right mix of supporting students in-class and at-home.

Assistant Superintendent of Universal Design and Learning, Jason Peters believes the online need will be less than it was this past year, but they still want to have the choice for families and students.

This is in partnership with Prairie Rose Public Schools and Grasslands Public Schools. The divisions are contracting teachers to develop online course packages for core high school subjects. These packages would be available when the new school year begins in the fall.

The course packages are for students who choose to learn online or for medical reasons.

Peters says MHPSD students would be connected with a teacher to support their online learning.

“The difference would be, it’s not daily in that the teacher would be instructing the whole course. But they would be facilitating tutorials, discussions, or support to the students that are working independently on the course that’s been designed, but they have those daily check-ins with the teacher,” he explained.

MHPSD will be sharing these online learning packages with Prairie Rose and Grasslands.

Peters says the actual application for the course is different for each division.
