COVID-19 update: 2,042 new cases confirmed Saturday

MEDICINE HAT, AB- Alberta Health has confirmed 2,042 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. Of the newly confirmed cases, 406 are variants of concern. Variant cases make up 47.6 per cent of the total case count in Alberta. A total of 18,878 tests were completed over the past 24 hours. The provincial positivity rate is 11 per cent.

In total, there are 661 people in hospital including 148 in ICU. The province also confirmed two additional deaths.

In Medicine Hat, there are 237 active cases. A total of 782 people have recovered. The city has 18 recorded deaths.

Cypress County has 24 active cases and 214 recoveries.

The county of Forty Mile has nine active cases 141 recoveries and three recorded deaths.

The county of Newell has 12 active cases, 114 recoveries, and two associated deaths.

The City of Brooks has 36 active cases, 1380 recoveries, and 14 recorded deaths.

The MD of Taber has 61 active cases, 171 recoveries, and six recorded deaths.

Lethbridge County has 181 active cases, 915 recoveries, and 12 recorded deaths.

The City of Lethbridge has 462 active cases, 3981 recoveries, and 36 recorded deaths.

On Twitter Saturday, the province’s chief medical officer of health said the choices made this weekend will affect case numbers in the future. She urged everyone to follow public health orders.
