Natural gas up, electricity down for May

MEDICINE HAT, AB – City of Medicine Hat customers will pay more for natural gas and less for electricity compared to last month.

The city posted the May rates on Monday.

The natural gas rate has been set at $3.2405 per gigajoule, up from $2.7795 in April.

The fixed rate for 2021 is $3.50 per GJ.

Electricity customers will pay 7.522 cents per kilowatt-hour this month, down from 8.781 per kilowatt-hour in April.

The fixed rate offered by the city is 6.800 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $3.2930 set by Direct Energy and the $3.1880 set by Apex (formerly AltaGas).

The electricity price falls between the high of 7.633 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton) and the 7.411 cents set by Direct Energy.
