Southern Alberta Humane Society adding volunteers

Apr 28, 2021 | 3:01 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Southern Alberta Humane Society is looking to add volunteers to their team.

Caseworker positions are available. They help coordinate and work with foster homes as well as adoptions for their animals.

Penny Seufert with the society says caseworkers are assigned animal(s) and they make sure the needs of foster homes are being met.

“And have one person that they can talk to so there’s no miscommunication and they know exactly who to go to if they have an issue or a problem. So they’re assigned a caseworker who will supply them with food, supplies, and let them know when veterinary appointments are.”

They also field adoption applications that come in for their assigned animals.

Caseworkers make sure the animal is a good fit for the pet and adopting family.

They are in charge of home checks before adoptions, which are being done virtually at this time.

This is entirely a volunteer position and hours can vary depending on personal availability.

Seufert says 4-5 caseworkers would be great to have on board.

And adds it’s kitten season right now, so they are expecting three pregnant cats who will be in their care.

Right now Southern Alberta Humane Society has eight cats and two dogs.
