COVID-19 update: 1,592 new cases confirmed Saturday

MEDICINE HAT, AB- There are 1,592 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed across the province Saturday. Of the total new case count, 1,132 cases are variants of concern. According to the province’s chief medical officer of health, variants of concern now make up 60.9 per cent of active cases in Alberta.

The provincial positivity rate is 9 per cent, according to Alberta Health.

In Medicine Hat, there are 135 active cases, 641 recoveries, and 17 deaths.

Cypress County has 39 active cases, 174 recoveries, and no recorded deaths.

Newell County has 10 active cases, 166 recoveries, and two recorded deaths.

The city of Brooks has 19 active cases, 1,354 recoveries, and 14 recorded deaths.

The MD of Taber has 40 active cases, 429 recoveries, and six recorded deaths.

Lethbridge County has 127 active cases, 775 recoveries, and nine deaths.

The City of Lethbridge has 422 active cases, 3,546 recoveries, and 35 deaths.

Province-wide, there are 584 people in hospital including 129 in ICU.

The province also confirmed five new deaths.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, the province’s chief medical officer of health advised Albertans to follow all public health orders and avoid indoor gatherings.
