UPDATE: Fort Macleod RCMP issued a news release Wednesday morning, indicating the incident in Granum on Tuesday night has been resolved.

Members of the ERT team entered the residence and two adult males were taken into custody without incident. The man who was the subject of the arrest warrant was one of those arrested. The other male was found to have an outstanding warrant as well.

GRANUM, AB. – RCMP units from Fort Macleod and Claresholm converged on Granum early Tuesday evening to deal with an ongoing incident.

RCMP shut down Highway 519 from the west and east heading into Granum due to a standoff at a home in the town. Traffic was re-routed in the area.

A news release from RCMP indicated there was no threat to the public. However, neighbours in the area said they were told to remain in their homes, away from windows. Police said there were sufficient resources in place and would remain to ensure public safety.

It was confirmed that a man, wanted on warrants, was barricaded inside a home and possibly armed.

A resident nearby said his alley was full of SWAT officers, there was a drone overhead and then the sound of percussion grenades.

It’s possible the incident may have begun earlier in the afternoon and may involve more than one individual. A post on the LNN Facebook site, indicated something took place at the Granum bank around 3:30 in the afternoon, as unmarked police vehicles were in front of the bank and officers were seen with someone in handcuffs.

More information will be provided when available and the public is thanked for their cooperation in avoiding the area.
