MEDICINE HAT, AB – With temperatures on Tuesday morning forecast to be below – 40 C with the wind chill, bus routes and in-person classes are being cancelled by local school divisions.

Medicine Hat Public School Division says buses are cancelled for the morning routes, anticipating that many buses may not be able to run. Schools will remain open.

“We plan to run busses in the afternoon and will continually monitor this situation in case there are any changes. We will communicate any changes to families as soon as possible,” says a release from the division.

The division says decisions will be made daily about any changes or cancellations to school bus routes, as cold temperatures are expected to persist until Friday.

The division says it will communicate as much information as possible as frequently as possible and asks parents and students to check the website and social media for the most up to date information.

Prairie Rose Public Schools is cancelling in-person learning at all schools for Tuesday with the exception of Coulee Collegiate.

Classes will continue under the learning from home model until temperatures allow students to return safely to in-person classes.

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education has also cancelled morning bus service for Tuesday.
