Police training exercise turns into break and enter arrest
MEDICINE HAT, AB – City police got more than they bargained for at a training exercise on Monday.
Medicine Hat Police Service specialty units were conducting a training exercise in what they thought was an empty building in the 1700 block of Saamis Drive NW.
“Several members began their training exercise and entered the building believing it was empty. At that time a male that’s well known to the police service exited one of the washrooms and to his surprise the room was full of police officers,” says Staff Sgt. Trevor Humphries.
Police quickly realized he had forced his way into the building – the Medicine Hat Trades & Labour Building – and arrested the man. The 55-year-old Medicine Hat man has been charged with break and enter and was released. A court date has been set for Dec. 12.
