Reminder to slow down in school zones

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Police are reminding motorists to be extra cautious and aware when it comes to following the speed limit of school zones.

The 30 km/hr speed limit is double posted for both school zones and playground zones in the city.

Between the hours of 7:30 AM to 9 PM.

Though that speed limit is in place year-round, Constable Austin Weisgerber says it’s been a bit of a gap since March since students were at school.

And parents will be getting back to routine with their kids.

“This year is a little bit unusual in comparison to most years just in the fact that’s it’s been since March since some of these kids have seen their best friends. So I think there’s a little bit more built-up excitement and just some of the other challenges with face masks and all that other stuff that people’s minds might be wondering in other places. So just being cognizant when you’re going through the school zones just to make sure everyone is staying safe.”

Constable Weisgerber adds he drove around some school zones this morning and everything looked good.
