Lightning Friday sparks two fires in the County of Forty Mile

COUNTY OF FORTY MILE, AB- A Lightning storm Friday afternoon ignited two fires in the County of Forty Mile.

According to the county fire department’s Facebook page, the fires started in the Manyberries and Etzikom district.

Large hail and rain provided some relief. One fire is held at 346 acres and the second fire is held at less than one acre, according to the fire department.

Fire crews from Pendor, Foremost, Bow Island, Manyberries, Etzikom, and Seven Persons attended to the blazes.

On Thursday, the County of Forty Mile Fire Department also attended a vehicle fire in Bow Island. Crews were called to the scene at 3:00 and the fire was put out by 5:30 p.m. The fire department reminds the public to be cautious of debris collecting in the undercarriage of vehicles, including ATV’s.
