Province records 111 new COVID-19 cases, none in Medicine Hat

With another 111 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Alberta today, the province shot past the 10,000 case mark.

Medicine Hat remains at 58 total cases, with one case moving from active to recovered. There are now seven active cases, 50 recovered and one death.

The province now has 10,086 total cases — 1,341 active cases, an increase of 48, and 8,567 recovered cases, an increase of 61.

On Thursday, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the sharp rise in active cases across Alberta should be a wake-up call.

“Now is the time to act,” said the province’s chief medical officer of health, stating the most recent numbers reflect trends that developed two weeks ago. And even if all public health rules were strictly followed today, the province will likely still see a continuation of the trend into August.

On Friday, the federal medical officer of health issued a warning to young Canadians that they are fuelling the spread.

“I must urge all Canadians, particularly younger adults, to not give in to COVID-19 fatigue,” Dr. Theresa Tam said.

The Friday update shows there are 95 Albertans currently in hospital due to COVID-19, 19 of which are in ICU. there are There have been 178 total deaths.

The province conducted 8,735 tests in the past 24 hours.

The South Zone has a total of 1,569 cases —1,414 recovered, an increase of 19, and 141 active, an increase of six.

There are 10 people in the zone in hospital, two of which are in ICU and there have been 14 deaths.

Cypress County has totalled 30 cases, all recovered.

The County of Forty Mile has nine total cases, three active cases and six recovered.

The MD of Taber has 28 total cases — 15 active and 13 recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has nine active cases.

Brooks has two new cases, the first in more than a week. The city now has 1,123 total cases —1,110 are recovered and four are active. Brooks has recorded nine deaths. The County of Newell is showing a total of 22 cases — two active and 20 recovered.

The County of Warner has 52 total cases. There are now five active cases and 46 recovered. There has been one death in the county.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 96 cases. Of those, 42 are listed as active and 54 recovered. Lethbridge County has 24 cases, 13 active cases and 11 recovered.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day July 23, 2020.”

In Saskatchewan, there were 27 new cases reported today. Twenty-one of those are on colonies in the southwest and west central regions where there were existing cases. There are currently 21 Hutterite communities with active cases in both the southwest and west central regions.
