Medicine Hat Fire Service lifts river advisory

Jul 17, 2020 | 10:04 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Fire Service has lifted the river advisory on the South Saskatchewan River.

It was just two weeks ago on July 3rd when the river peaked at roughly 1,120 cubic metres per second, which marks the fastest the river has flown in years.

Right now the South Saskatchewan River is flowing at 349.28 cubic meters per second.

Alberta’s river basin website says the 100 – 400 m³/s flow rate is the preferred rate for recreational users.

But local firefighters remind, where’s there’s water, there’s risk, and to plan ahead.

They say users should always check the Alberta rivers app or website for real-time flow rates.

The provincial river flow rates can be found by visiting this link.

River safety can be found by visiting the link on the city’s website.
