In July, but no firm date right now

Reopening of Medicine Hat Cineplex delayed

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat’s Galaxy Cinemas won’t be welcoming people back to the theatre this weekend after all.

Last week, Cineplex announced six of its theatres in Calgary and Edmonton would reopen on June 26, with the remaining Alberta theatres to reopen on July 3.

Today, a Cineplex spokesperson said the date has been pushed back.

“It’s a result of shifting dates for Hollywood content,” said Sarah Van Lange, executive director, communications.

The company is now planning to reopen the rest of its theatres in Alberta and Canada in a phased approach throughout July, said Van Lange, adding there have been no health and safety concerns raised by the initial slate of openings.

When the local theatre does start screening again, there will be increased health and safety measures throughout the lobby and theatres.

Unhinged (July 31), Tenet (Aug. 12) and Antebellum (Aug. 21) are among the summer Hollywood releases listed on cineplex.com.
