City to introduce alternative landscaping to Gilwell Park

Jun 18, 2020 | 10:09 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A city park will be closed this summer as the parks and recreation department introduces alternative landscaping to the area.

The city will be rolling out new native, fescue grasses that will improve irrigation at Gilwell Park, located on the north side of Southview Drive, near Southview School.

The new grass will be “better on water savings and mowing savings in the future,” says Alex Ehmann, project sponsor, parks and recreation in a video the City of Medicine Hat has posted regarding the project. You can watch the full video below.

The park will be closed on July 1 and will reopen in mid-October. At that time areas such as the trails, playground and disc golf course will reopen, but Ehmann says the grass will remain off-limits for up to two years to allow for proper root establishment.
