COVID-19 update: Forty-two new cases province-wide, Medicine Hat sees two more cases

EDMONTON, AB- In a daily COVID-19 update, the province is confirming 42 new cases of COVID-19 province-wide.

There are now 801 active cases of the virus and 5924 recoveries.

There were no deaths to report today, leaving the number COVID-19 related deaths at 135.

According to the province, Medicine Hat saw case numbers rise by two over the last 24 hours. There are now 40 cases of the virus. Eight are active and 32 have recovered.

Cases in Cypress County have also risen by one, bringing the total number of cases to 13. Five are listed as active and eight have recovered

In Brooks, two active cases have now recovered since yesterday, changing the total number of active cases to 51.Out of the 1095 cases in total , 1037 cases have recovered. The death toll in Brooks remains at seven.

Elsewhere in the South Zone, the county of Newell has 15 confirmed cases, two active and 13 recovered.

The city of Lethbridge has 27 confirmed cases. Nine are active and 18 have recovered.

Cardston County has 24 cases, 15 active and nine recovered.

Lethbridge County has one confirmed case which has recovered.

Both the Municipal District of Taber and the County of Forty Mile have two confirmed cases, both listed as recovered.

A drop in the number new cases means the City of Brooks and Calgary will be allowed to reopen hair salons, and barber shops tomorrow(May. 25). Restaurants will also be allowed to reopen in the two cities at a 50 per cent capacity.

Some Albertans will also have access to more health services, including non-urgent surgeries come tomorrow.
