Council gives green light for Hamptons Area Structure Plan

May 20, 2020 | 4:03 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – City council has given the green light for the Hamptons Area Structure Plan (ASP).

The plan for Medicine Hat Village Park is expected to see improvements and expansion in the city’s south end.

Following a presentation from the developer and public hearing Tuesday night, council unanimously approved the third and final reading for the bylaw amendment.

With council meetings still being held virtually due to public health rules, the public hearing was held over the phone and received three written submissions of both concern and support.

50 people attended an open house in February and did not trigger any adjustments to the amendment.

The mobile home park then cleared it’s first hurdle last month towards the major expansion and was unanimously approved at a Municipal Planning Commission meeting in April.

The proposal came after a change in ownership of the mobile home park from Lansdowne Equity Ventures to Cove Communities, who are looking to revitalize the area.

This includes adding between 50 to 60 new manufactured homes. The developer is still ironing out that number.

The original Hamptons ASP was adopted in 2005.

The proposed Hamptons ASP amendment has been prepared to address the permanency of the manufactured home park. It says no changes are proposed to the original plan outside the manufactured home park parcel.
