MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat has begun sending out property assessment notices for multi-family and non-residential properties and they will be arriving in residents’ mailboxes this week.

Assessment notices are being sent separately from property tax notices to give the department more time to deal with individual concerns before property taxes are due.

Legislation allows property owners 60 days from the notice of assessment date of May 22 to review and discuss any concerns with the city’s assessment department.

Assessment notices for single-family residences and farmland were mailed at the end of February.

The annual tax rate will be set by city council in June and tax notices will be mailed out at the end of July. Property assessment appeals for multi-family and non-residential property must be received by the Clerk of the Assessment Review Board by July 21. The final date of complaint for single-family residential and farmland properties has been extended to July 1.

Though tax payments have been deferred to Sept. 30, those who can pay their taxes earlier are encouraged by the city to do so.

More information can be found on the city website or by calling the assessment department at 403-529-8114.
