Farmers’ market opening day pushed back

Apr 22, 2020 | 11:24 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Farmers’ Markets will not open on May 16 in the Cypress Centre Fieldhouse as originally planned.

Stampede officials announced today that more planning will be required due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The venue is still to be determined at this time and we will release the information closer to the opening date,” reads a release from the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede.

Farmers’ Markets have been deemed an essential service by the Government of Alberta. The government has deemed essential any “businesses engaged in the retail and wholesale sale of food, pet food and supplies, and household consumer products necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential operations of residences and businesses, including grocery stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, markets and other similar retailers.”

The release goes on to caution farmers’ market attendees that the way they shop will likely change for the upcoming markets and says the committee is still working out these details with the appropriate provincial government departments.

More information on the 2020 Medicine Hat Farmers’ Market will be provided as the situation develops.
